What is the most important thing you've learned from the Introduction to Audio engineering program?
Professionalism. The School creates an environment where the student is placed in a professional position, learning to deal with real world clients and situations. Understanding the hardware technology and applying that knowledge to current professional standards is the key. This course covers it all. Robert D. Goodman, CD, Bsc
For me it was a combination of microphone selection, microphone
placement and understanding various microphone capabilities. Also, learning how to develop a clearly defined goal for a project and then make the correct choices to get you there. I confess that when I started recording (on my own) before the course, I was a "fix it in the" mix guy. I think the single most important thing I learned is to always get it right before you ever hit record, and what's right, isn't always what you think it would be. Only years of experience can get you that knowledge, but here you'll get it in just a short while. Dion Buechman, Owner Foxhill Records
What have you enjoyed most about this course?
The friendly and relaxed learning environment. It was a pleasure to work on this course in a working production studio. This is not some guy's basement, this is a working studio here in Ottawa producing some great artists and working with government and industry from the region. Robert D. Goodman, CD, Bsc
I always enjoyed those moments where you get all experimental with a
track and see where it goes. Sometimes it works and sometimes..well...not so much. But it almost always teaches a new trick that you can use later on down the road. The live band recording is the best. Nothing eaches you faster about what works and what doesn't. Dion Buechman, Owner Foxhill Records
Would you recommend this program to others?
Yes most definatley. This program was worth every dollar. In fact this program far outdoes many other programs offered at a much higher price. I researched teaching studios and programs here in Ottawa for 6 months and there is no-one offering this full bodied menu of learning in such a great atmosphere. Robert D. Goodman, CD, Bsc
Absolutely. The depth of what you actually are exposed to is
phenomenal.
I couldn't imagine having a better teacher. Patient and deliberate. Dion Buechman, Owner Foxhill Records
In what ways has the Introduction to Audio Engineering program prepared you for your recording career?
The school covers all of the important areas for any aspiring recordist. To launch a pro career or to get the latest techniques for the home recordist, this program offers it all. The school staff tailors each program based on what each student needs, including a flexible shedule. The program allows the flexibility to spend the time on the areas that you are most interested in. All areas of modern recording are available to the student in a tailor made package. Robert D. Goodman, CD, Bsc
The hands on real world approach was instrumental in taking all of the
things I thought I knew about engineering, and putting them into practice in a way that taught me many intricacies and subtleties I would not have otherwise known. The class was limited and because of that there's more than enough time to ask all the questions you have, all of which get answered to your satisfaction. I was recording and mixing before the course with what I thought was a decent understanding of most of the principles and strategies. I can tell you that after taking this course, I have a much clearer understanding of the methods and different approaches to recording /mixing. My work flow is much much more effective ,methodical and most importantly... productive. Dion Buechman, Owner Foxhill Records
